Erdemli, Mersin

Not a resort. A town on the Mediterranean where people actually live.

Erdemli sits on the coast road between Mersin and Silifke, in the part of Türkiye that Turkish families have been coming to for their summers long before anyone put it on an international map. There is no resort strip here — there is a bakery on the back street, a market where the prices are the local ones, a bus station that gets you anywhere along the coast, and the Mediterranean at the end of the road.

The apartment is a whole home in the middle of it: a new building on a quiet street, a kitchen you can genuinely cook in, a washing machine, fast internet, and a balcony for the part of the evening when it finally cools down. It has been rented out for three years, mostly to Turkish families and to travellers who wanted the coast without the crowd.

Why here

What this place is actually good at

The sea, ten minutes on foot

The public beach is around 500 m from the door. Guests consistently describe it as a 10–15 minute walk — no car, no shuttle, no beach club membership.

A neighbourhood, not a strip

A bakery and a market on the back street, a mosque within walking distance, a bus stop 100 m away and the intercity bus station at 250 m. You are living in Erdemli, not visiting a compound.

Built for longer stays

Full kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine, drying rack, 75 Mbps Wi-Fi and a table you can work at. The air conditioner heats as well as cools, so a winter month here is a real option — and from seven nights the rate drops.

Nothing to sort out on arrival

Self check-in with a key lockbox, free parking in front of the building, linen and towels, toiletries, slippers and dishwasher tablets already there. Bring a suitcase, that is all.

The apartment

Room by room

One bedroom, one living space, and a balcony that does more work than either of them in August.

The living room of the apartment in Erdemli, with daylight through the balcony doors

Living room and kitchen

One open room that does three jobs: a three-seat sofa that folds out to a 183 × 116 cm bed, two armchairs, a floor lamp and an extendable table that goes from coffee table to dining table. Smart TV, split air conditioner, video intercom, and the kitchen along the far wall.

Bedroom with a 160 by 200 cm double bed

Bedroom

A 160 × 200 cm double bed, two bedside tables, a mirror and a full sliding-door wardrobe. The air conditioner is in the living room next door, not in here — the two narrow windows are curtained and out of direct sun, which is what keeps this room cool. Guests have slept through July on that arrangement without complaint.

Gas hob, sink and washing machine in the kitchen

Kitchen

A gas hob, a large fridge-freezer, a dishwasher, a kettle, and the cupboards are genuinely stocked: pots, pans, a çaydanlık, plates, glasses, cutlery, a grater, a chopping board. Oil, salt and pepper are there when you arrive.

Shower room with a glazed shower cabin

Shower room

A glazed shower cabin, washbasin, WC and bidet, hot water, hairdryer. Shampoo, shower gel and soap are provided, along with towels and disposable slippers.

The balcony at sunset, looking over the neighbourhood

Balcony

A small table and two chairs on the courtyard side of the building, which is the quiet side. This is where the evening happens, once the heat lets go around seven.

The house was exceptionally clean. The sheets, the sofa, the table, the kitchen and the balcony were all clean. The house was as shown in the photos. The location is nice; there are grocery stores nearby, and it's a 10–15 minute walk to the beach. Disposable slippers, shower gel and kitchen utensils such as pots and pans were also provided. It's very easy to contact the host; he responds very quickly and is solution-oriented. It was one of the best Airbnb homes we have ever stayed in. Thanks for the stay!

Stayed with children

We extended our two-day plan to four days because of how clean the house was and because we felt at home. The living room, the kitchen and the bedroom were all very clean. Ten minutes on foot to the beach. I recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay.

Stayed about a week

The house was very clean and just as it appeared in the photos. The location was good — we could walk to the beach in 10–15 minutes. There were enough kitchen utensils for a long stay. The host was very attentive and quick to answer questions. One of the nicest homes to stay in Erdemli!

Arzu Ankara · May 2024 Translated from Turkish

The place is exactly as how it is in the photos and it is close from the highway too. There are a lot of stores around and it's easy to access public transport. The place is also very well designed and all the amenities work and are available as listed. The host was very responsive to our queries as well and very welcoming and helpful. Will definitely come back again.

Anna February 2024

Everything was exactly as shown in the photos. Spotless linen, kitchen equipment, armchairs. The host was easy-going and helpful. The beach is a ten-minute walk; there is a bakery and a market on the back street, so everything you need is covered. There is also a mosque within walking distance.

Stayed with children

I have been staying at the same place for two years. The host is very kind and attentive. Everything was as described. Many thanks to him.

Osman July 2024 Translated from Turkish

And the things guests flagged

The shower drains slowly and the bathroom stays damp, so bring flip-flops. And it is 37 m²: three adults is cosy rather than roomy — two adults and two children is what the layout is built for.

Booking direct

Straight from the owner, with no platform fee on top

A better price

Booking platforms add a guest service fee to every reservation. Booking directly removes it — the saving goes to you, not to the platform.

You talk to a person

Questions about dates, early check-in, a cot, a long stay — answered directly by the host, in the same conversation you book in.

Flexible where it matters

Check-in timing, luggage drop-off, longer stays. Guests have arrived early and extended mid-trip; that is easier to arrange when there is no system in between.

The rating and the reviews on this page come from three seasons of hosting on Airbnb. The apartment is let directly by its owner now, so this is where it is booked.

A refundable deposit of $100 confirms your dates. It comes back to you after check-out, provided the apartment is left in order.

The deposit is sent by transfer to hold the dates; the balance is transferred on arrival. Account details come to you in the booking conversation, never on a public page.

How much of the deposit comes back, counted in days before your arrival date:

The coast

You are not just booking a room

A castle standing in the sea, two vast sinkholes you can walk down into, a trout farm where you catch your own lunch, and mountains that run cooler than the shore. Everything here is under an hour from the door.

20 min by car

The trout farm

A working farm with a restaurant attached: the trout swim in the pond and you can catch your own by hand. About as fresh as fish gets. Reviews online are mixed, so it is worth a check before you drive out — but it is the host’s own recommendation.

25 km · 30 min by car

Kızkalesi

The maiden’s castle sitting offshore in shallow water, with a second castle on the beach facing it. The most photographed thing on this coast, and it earns it.

29 km · 33 min by car

Cennet and Cehennem

Two enormous collapsed sinkholes — Heaven and Hell — in the hills above Narlıkuyu, with a Byzantine chapel at the bottom of the first one.

44 km · 45 min by car

Mersin

The nearest big city: a long seafront promenade, a proper covered bazaar, and the range of restaurants a district town does not have.

60 min by car

The zoo at Toroslar

A full afternoon with children, and the road climbs away from the coastal heat on the way up.

The mountains to the north

Behind the coast the land rises into the Taurus and the temperature drops with it. Campsites, parks, picnic grounds, a shooting range — this is where local families go when August gets heavy.

Questions

Before you book

How far is the beach?

About 500 m — roughly a ten-minute walk, which guests usually describe as 10–15 minutes at an unhurried pace. That one is Erdemli Belediyesi Halk Plajı, the municipal beach: free, with showers and toilets. Close by there is also Alata, a private paid beach with security, a café, sunbeds and umbrellas.

Is the apartment suitable for families?

Yes, and a good share of the guests have been families. There is a double bed in the bedroom and a fold-out sofa in the living room; the host’s rule is two adults and two children, or three adults. A full kitchen and a washing machine make a difference with children. There is no cot and no high chair, so bring your own if you need them.

Is parking available?

Yes, and it is free — both on the driveway in front of the building and on the street. This is one of the few places in the area with free parking included.

Is there Wi-Fi, and is it good enough to work?

Yes — 75 Mbps, a speed Airbnb verified independently. There is also a wired Ethernet connection, a 32-inch smart TV, and an extendable table you can work at.

What is nearby?

Bus stop 100 m, intercity bus station 250 m, water park 300 m, an A101 supermarket 300 m, the public beach 500 m, and the Nova City shopping centre at 1.4 km. Guests also mention a bakery and a market on the back street and a mosque within walking distance.

Can I stay for a month or longer?

Yes. Stays of 28 nights and more are welcome, and the apartment is set up for it: dishwasher, washing machine, drying rack, a properly equipped kitchen and fast internet. The nightly rate also drops with the length of the stay: 10% off from 7 nights, 20% from 14 and 30% from 20.
